Clearwater Centennial Events in April!

city-of-clearwater-centennialThe City of Clearwater turns 100 years old on May 27, 2015 and is planning a year’s worth of events to celebrate. Official centennial events for April are as follows:

North Greenwood Centennial Rib Fest Cook Off
Saturday, April 11, 2015, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

1100-1300 Block of N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.
Participants will compete for the title of best ribs in the area. Meals will be available for purchase as well as arts and crafts. Come out, meet your neighbors, and eat some ribs!

Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival
Friday, April 17 to Sunday, April 26, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Pier 60 Park, Clearwater Beach

A 21,000-square-foot tent will be filled with sand sculpted art crafted by world-class sculptors using Clearwater’s famous sugar sand. One thousand tons of sand will be transformed into an enchanted story-land, featuring classic fairy tales and modern-day literary adventures. The ten-day celebration features free activities including sand sculpting classes, speed sand demonstrations, a children’s play area, extended Sunsets at Pier 60 hours, fireworks and six nights of free concerts on the beach.

Fun ‘n Sun started in 1954 as a way to keep snowbirds in Clearwater just a little longer. Drawing more than 50,000 visitors each year, Fun ‘n Sun Clearwater features music, parties, shows and activities that encompass the entire community, from the sugar sand beaches to downtown to the city’s parks – something for everyone of all ages! This year’s festival will conclude with the Fun ‘n Country Concert featuring the Eli Young Band, Thompson Square, and many others. The concert is located at Coachman Park on Sunday, May 3rd and tickets are available by visiting www.funnsunclearwater.com.
