Report Illegal Dumping

clearwater-logoEveryone can play a role in keeping Clearwater bright and beautiful. Clearwater Police and Code Enforcement have had recent increases in the number of cases of illegal dumping on vacant lots and residential properties throughout the city. Innocent property owners bear the expense of having to rid properties of trash, construction debris, appliances, grass clippings and tree trimmings that are intentionally littered onto their properties.

Illegal dumping and littering is unfair to property owners, the taxpayers, the affected neighborhood and the community. It’s not just unfair; it’s unlawful. According to Florida law (F.S.S. 403.413) and the city’s Codes of Ordinances (sections 21.02, 32.238 and 32.394), the intentional acts of littering, illegally dumping and the illicit discharging of litter and materials is against the law, punishable by criminal prosecution and/or Code Compliance violations.

This illegal act should not be tolerated. If you see something like this happening in your neighborhood, report it by calling Clearwater Police at(727) 562-4242, option 1.

Bright House Networks Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival

It’s that time of year again to R.O.C.K in the U.S.A., or in our case, R.O.C.K on Clearwater Beach. The 4th annual Bright House Networks Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival will transform America’s best beach into a museum of dazzling sand sculptures April 15 to 24. This year’s theme is “All Out Music.”

Ten world-class sculptors will rock around the clock sculpting elaborate sand sculptures from Clearwater’s internationally-famous sugar sand. The works of art will be on display for ten days in a 21,000-square-foot tent. More than 1,000 tons of Clearwater sand will be brought to life, taking visitors on a musical journey through the decades while celebrating America’s greatest music legends and hits.

clearwater-beach-sugarsandfest

Team Sandtastic will return for a fourth year to sculpt the exhibit and compete in the Master Sand Sculpting Competition, which will give visitors an up-close, personal look at these fascinating artists. We will rock you throughout the ten-day festival with a variety of free activities including six nights of concerts on the beach, sand sculpting clinics, speed sand demonstrations, a children’s play area, extended Sunsets at Pier 60 hours, fireworks, amusements and entertainment. Last year’s festival drew 30,000 visitors to the exhibit. More than 100,000 participants took advantage of the free activities during the festival.

The festival is a joint effort between Sunsets at Pier 60 and the city of Clearwater, and has become one of the most popular activities of the city’s annual Fun ‘n Sun Festival.

Admission to the sculpture exhibit will be $10 for adults, $5 for students ages six to 17 years old, and $7 for those 55 and older, military personnel, police officers, firefighters and teachers (proper identification required).
