Summer camps for adults…that’s what I’m wanting, from Creative Clay to Morean Arts Center classes, interspersed with cool blanco sangria, fruity palapas  and tapas. Celebrate summer with the Juneteenth family festival celebrating the freedom of Americans of all colors and the legal end to slavery in our nation, downtown St. Pete’s waterfront concerts Independence Day and meander the the Saturday Market changes venue in the shade, taking place in Williams Park.  Don’t miss the St. Petersburg Crab & Music Festival in Vinoy Park June 18 and St. Pete Pride in the Grand Central District June 25-26. – Thru June 26: Measured Life Works by Vicky Colombet, Babs Reingold and Tip Toland
– Thru July 31: Harold “Doc” Edgerton’s What the Eye Can’t See Showcasing some of the Museum’s most compelling photographs by Harold  “Doc”  Edgerton (American, 1903–1990). Many are now recognized as his most important. They range from rarely seen gelatin silver prints from as early as 1932 to his colorful dye transfer photographs. The high-speed stroboscopic short film about Edgerton, Quicker’n a Wink, which won an Oscar in 1940, will also play in the gallery. Known affectionately as  “Papa Flash”  Edgerton used photography to extend the capabilities of the human eye and in the process created some of the most memorable photographs ever made.
– Thru July 10: Vanessa Diaz, “Beginning at the Cornice, Not the Foundation”  This multidisciplinary artist adept at reworking interior domestic spaces so that the most habitual of settings become distorted. Working in the Museum’s decorative arts galleries and period rooms, Diaz will create site-specific installations that disrupt notions of customs and home décor.

– June 5 Ayako Yoshida, violin:  Ayako Yoshida picked up the violin at the age of two and has not stopped since. Critics call her “unforgettable,  “gripping,”  absolutely radiant,”  and  “a risk-taker.”
– June 26  Clancy Newman, cello:      Clancy Newman took to the cello at six and won a gold medal in his first competition at 12. He has added first prizes in the Walter W. Naumburg International Competition, The Juilliard School Cello Competition, the National Federation of Music Clubs Competition, and the Astral Artists National Auditions.
– July 17  Merling Trio and Friends: The Merling Trio violinist Renata Artman Knific, cellist Bruce Uchimura, and pianist Susan Wiersma Uchimura is one of our premier chamber music ensembles. The Cleveland Plain Dealer wrote  “the players shaped a grand interpretation, fluent in rhythm and rich in romantic feeling,”  and London’s Musical Opinion declared that the artists  “made a powerful impression, with unabashed romanticism and finesse.”
– July 31  Christopher Johnson, piano: Dr. Christopher Johnson returns  “home” for this special Marly Music concert. Though born in New Jersey, he completed early studies in Pinellas County with Angela Baptiste, who coached him on his first competitions. He has more than fulfilled his early promise. He was the first pianist to win the Yamaha Young Performing Artist Award, one of many prizes.

June 6-23: USF Contemporary Art4202 East Fowler Avenue, Tampa “Amplified: Reverberations from The Music Box” explores the history, collaborative process, and impact of New Orleans Airlift’s musical architecture project The Music Box, including the recent installation in Sulphur Springs, through video documentation, instrumental elements, performance videos, ephemera and new work by local artists inspired by the project.

Tour starts & ends at Cappy’s Pizza, 2900 1st Ave. N. Historic Kenwood, known for its collection of bungalow homes, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Tour showcases how a historic, neglected and tattered neighborhood can come back with a group of dedicated homeowners to become one of the most sought after neighborhoods to live within St. Pete.

Tour starts on the verandah of the historic Stewart Bldg., 233 3rd St. N. Tour ends at the Ale & the Witch (111 2nd Ave. NE). The tour will take participants through the central downtown business district that still includes a wonderful collection of architecturally significant historic buildings, ranging from beautiful historic churches to ornate historic office buildings like the Snell Arcade to impressive historic civic buildings like the Open Air Post Office.

– July 14, 7 pm Historic Gulfport
Tour starts at Gulfport Historical Museum, 5301 28th Ave. S, Gulfport and ends at Pia’s Trattoria, 3054 Beach Blvd., Gulfport. This tour allows participants to experience the ‘Burg’s “suburbs” in funky and artsy Gulfport, a town on Boca Ciega Bay that has an interesting collection of historic commercial and residential structures.

– June 18: Etsy Craft Party
11 am – 4 pm This free community event features handmade and vintage items for sale, craft demonstrations and make-n-take projects for all. Kiley’s use of rich, but translucent hues generates a sense of drama that permeates through all of his sculptures.
